We have a 4 1/2 yr old daughter that
shows all the signs of having SM. Looking for others in the area that
are going through the same thing. We
do not want to use medication, due to
side affects. She not only doesn't talk
to teachers or classmates, but does not
participate at all and will stand/sit
in certain spots. Any help would be nice

Thank You, Bob

I am also sure my daughter has SM. She has been enrolled in preschool since she was two to ENCOURAGE her to become more social. She is now 4 going on 5 and won't even ask her teacher to go to the bathroom, the other day she had an accident because of it. She has been potty trained since the age of 2! and never had an accident before. Help, is there other Mom's I can talk to out there?

I have a child who has been a select mute for 5 years in the school system. I am unable to acquire speech services at his school for their cockamaimie (SP?) reasons. He is also been diagnosed with neurofibromatosis 1 and PDD-NOS (slight autism). Is there anyone close to me who could be a support to discuss doctors that worked and to help with the school situation? Thank You

My daughter is going on 10 years old. The Doctors said she had Autism. It wasn't Autism it was Selective Mutism. She talks only to five people. She has never spoken to a teacher or a palymate. Looking for any type of Doctors that can help. Any info please feel free to email. Any questions please email.

We are so frustrated! We don't seem to be getting a lot of help from the school, and our therapist says that he must talk. Period. Everything I read on the net says not to "bribe" the kids and we have been doing that all year long. We just don't know where to turn for help for our son. The website has been very informative ... I just wish that local bookstores had different resources available so that I could do more in-depth research, and try to formulate some kind of "action plan"... Any suggestions?

My four year old daughter was just diagnosed with selective mutism. She has been going to the same school for almost 3 years and still will not talk to her classmates or teachers. She however loves going and talks a mile a minute at home. If anyone has found any help in Long Island, NY please let me know. Thanks
