hi -my daughter who was dx about three years ago at age eight is now almost 11- we are still in the process-but a few things I would like others to know is that this is an axiety disorder, do not pressure your child to talk-do not talk for your child , do not enable your child. There is some help but none in my area had to have help through phone therapy, it has helped but after a year had to stop because of the price-- I hope we can all free our children. I hope that more therapists learn about this disorder and how to treat it Added: May 26, 2009

I THINK MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, HAS THIS DISSORDER..I'M DESPERATE..SHE RELATES PRETTY GOOD WITH KIDS OF HER AGE OR MORE..BUT NEVER WITH ADULT PEOPLE..EVEN WITH HER TEACHER.. THE LAST THING THAT HAPPENED WAS THIS WEEKEND..WE WENT TO A FRIEND HOUSE THAT WE HARDLY SEE AND THERE WAS A GROUP OF ADULT PEOPLE IN THERE, SO I ALWAYS TELL HER..SAY HI TO EVERYONE..SHE JUST STAYED MUTE AND DIDN,T SAY A WORD..LOOK AT EVERYONE AND EVEN WHEN I TOLD HER AGAIN, SAY HI , SHE JUST LOOKED A T ME AND THEN WHISPER IN MY EAR..DON'T SAY THAT IN FRONT OF PEOPLE! I am a 27 year old female , who is suffering from selective mutism since i was very young. And it has really messed up my life, i am really fed up of it to tell you the truth. I find talking to people very hard and i am unable to find a job because of it, i cant seem to hold a relationship together what so ever. If there is people out there with children with this condition, please make people help them, as i know how it feels. Added: May 15, 2009

I am the mother of a 10 year old boy with Selective Mutism and am trying to find someone who can help him. Three years ago, he was seeing a theripist and after several sessions, told me he just doesn't want to talk. Those of us with this type of child knows this is not the case. Added: May 14, 2009

My daughter has been SM since she was in PreK. She is our 1st child and is now 7 years old. We have another daughter who is turning 3 who is a**ting the 7year old to break out of her shell but it still is a long process. We have met w/specialitists (psychiatrists) she has been on meds which made her defiant. We are currently working w/ Marian Moldan who specializes in this area. Her school is not helpful & though they say they have worked with children like her, it seems like they do not know what they are doing (since i did have to seek outside threapy b/c they admitted to me during a meeting they are not equippied with the appropriate staff). I need an educational lawyer to a**t me in the right direction. I need someone fimilar with the educational needs of her and knows the ins & out of the eduction & selective mutism. All in all, we need help b/c everytime I think i am getting somewhere i then feel like nothing gets accomplished. Before you know it she will have to take state tests...Will she be penelized b/c of her situation? Added: April 23, 2009
