I too have a child who has SM. She is a bright, talkative, sensitive 6 year old who talks to us (parents) and 2 special friends. At school though she does not speak at all! Any suggestions on how to help her! Added: Feb. 24, 1998 |

Thank you for your service! I am having some difficulty with finding appropriate treatments for my four year old child with SM. Also, as a professional in this field, I am interested in contributing to the foundation's endeavors in both public awareness and research. I currently attend Florida International University and work for Dade County Public Schools. If there is anything I can do, please call!!Thank you. Added: Feb. 21, 1998 |

Hello, We just received a packet of information from your organization and thank you for the prompt response. Two weeks ago we read an article in the Youngstown Vindicator, our local paper, about selective mutism and it could have had our daughters name at the end. Our pediatrician has not heard of it, nor our sister-in-law who is a pediatrician. Our sister-in-law has ties to the Cleveland Clinic and is investigating it for us. I was wondering if there is a list of doctors for our area who are fimiliar with SM that we could contact. Thank You...Jim Added: January 26, 1998 |

I am a Master's student in the speech-language pathology program at the University of Northern Iowa and am currently working with a 5th grader who is experiencing selective mutism. I am having difficulty figuring out what the speech pathologist's role is in treating this disorder (if he/she has a role) and the best strategy to go about approaching it. Your web page gave me some helpful background information--thank you. Valerie Nelsen Added: January 26, 1998 |
